Cahors, in the South West of France is the ancestral home of Malbec, where in its French form, it is a more savoury, dark skinned & brooding variety that its Argentinian cousin. Perfected over the centuries, The 'Grand Vin'Ā of Clos la Coutale, Grand Coutale, is a blend of Malbec, Merlot & Tannat with an averageĀ yield of only 25 hl, then matured in new oak barrels for 2 years with regular stirring to produce supple and silky tannins.Ā This is an intense, inky, black fruit dominated full-bodied wine, which deserves to be decanted, before serving withĀ steak and pomme sarladaises.
About the Producer
Handed down over 6 generations, the 100 hectares of vines of Clos la Coutale are located in the heart of theĀ meanderingĀ River Lot on alluvial soils composed of gravel and clay-limestone silica. Protected from the extreme cold with a southwest exposure, this land is particularly suitable for vine growing.
